Read, Read, Read – Exercise Your Mind

I’ve seen many other people with home based businesses talk about the benefits of exercise and how there are many more benefits than the physical and health, such as increased brain activity and more.

What’s equally important is to also challenging and exercising your mind. One great way to do this is to read.

It’s kind of ironic, personally up until recently, I HATED READING! In school, I was horrible, I could never keep up. When I was younger and in school I would always need to read the “Coles notes” and watched the movies for any assignments related to reading books. It wasn’t that I couldn’t read, it’s just that I had no interest and because of that I just didn’t retain anything I read, it was in one ear and out the other.

Anyways, fast forward now – I love reading books that interest me. Most of the ones I read are related to business, motivation and entrepreneurs. Two of my recent reads that I have enjoyed are the books about Steve Jobs and Elon Musk. They both might not be the nicest of people, but it’s hard to say something bad about their accomplishments.

I’ve found the key to enjoying reading is to find books you like and that interest you, if you try to read something that you aren’t interested in, chances are you won’t enjoy it and you won’t get through. This is the problem I had when I was younger, nothing in books really interested me. I have obviously changed a fair bit since then and have several interests and people I can learn about by reading.

It’s recommended that you read a little bit each day. I’ve found that when I do this, I get more frequent ideas and think of things I may not have thought about prior to the reading. It’s like any other types of exercise, if you read often it will get easier (think of your brain as a muscle).
